I believe the drive-in restaurant at Kingsley & Garland Rd was Lindee's No. 3.  Lindee's No. 1 was at First St & Garland Ave (old 5 points) and No. 2 was at Garland Rd & Miller Rd.  I think that's right.

I think I remember reading something about Jame's passing.

Good recall on the Lindee's.  I'm trying to picture the one at 5 Points.  Tell me Jim, did you visit all of the Lindee's?  Wink

Debbie mentioned the Sabine Valley ice cream located on Main, which prompted my memory of the (fresh) fish store located next door (I think).

Was the car lot located at the corner of Garland and Main (where the Dallas County offices are located) Red Bankston Ford or somesuch?

Steve's mustang had a "trick" passenger seat.  He and my sister used to go out together, we lived across the street.  He would take off real fast and the seat would flip back and my sister would disappear!

Kent,

Lindee's at 5 points was on the NW corner of First St. and Garland Ave. (now Main St.) where the Taco Bell is now.  It faced Garland Ave.  It was next to Sabine Valley Ice Cream.  Do you remember the other Sabine Valley location?  Yes, I did visit all Lindee's, but only one in my brother's car.  Wink

I agree with you on the location of Red Bankston's Ford.  Someone once told me his brother was W.O. Bankston.  I believe Myers bought the Ford dealership after Red passed away and moved it to Shiloh Rd. and Garland Rd.

Does Debbie remember what the two exotic flavors were at Sabine Valley?

Jim

I still cannot remember the 5-points location.   Embarrassed

After much thinking, I have determined that you have been short changed all these years.  Back in those days we had drive-ins, but you surely were the inspiration for the drive-thru.   Smiley  Have you been receiving your royalties?

Debbie says not, but her favorites were black walnut,  peach, or lime sherbert

Back to 5-points, let's take a drive north on Lavon Hwy to the watermelon stand.  Any memories of that little piece of sweetness?  They had picnic tables and you picked out your melon, they sliced it up and you and the family could sit by the "highway" and eat and spit (watermelon seeds) to your heart's content.  Though I'm not sure if we were technically in the city limits of Garland.

Kent,

Exotic flavors at the time were Black Walnut and Honeydew Melon.

Not sure I remember that particular watermelon stand, but I do remember one in front of Carl Cruitt's garage on Garland Ave.  Ice cold watermelon by the slice on a Saturday summer evening with your neighborhood friends was hard to beat!

On the North side just west of where Sabine Valley was.  Standalone building which is still a garage just different name.
